GE's new engine testing, research and development center at James A. Richardson International Airport in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada) is a partnership with StandardAero. The facility will be used to run icing tests on turbine engines up to 150000 pounds thrust and 150 inches in diameter. StandardAero personnel maintain and operate the new test facility. The wind tunnel is powered by seven fans powered by 250-horsepower variable-frequency motors. Cost to build the facility was $50 million, and it requires two megawatts of electricity to run.
